1. What is vacuum casting?
Vacuum casting refers to the process of processing specific metals in a vacuum chamber. Common vacuum casting processes include melting, pouring, crystallization, etc. The purpose of vacuum casting is to minimize the gas content in the metal, thereby preventing metal oxidation.
This method has been widely applied in mold design and manufacturing, and can produce high demand special alloy castings and highly oxidizable titanium alloy castings according to requirements.
Vacuum casting has many advantages, such as can achieve to prevent metal oxidation; can generate high requirements, high specifications of the castings; can cast some special materials, etc., specific for the following points:
Sharp reduction of gas content in the metal: As we all know, the gas content in the metal reaches a certain level, it will be easy to contact with the air to occur a series of physical reactions, which will lead to the volatile reaction of the metal substance, such as rust, deformation and so on, then through the vacuum casting, you can solve this pain point. Research and facts show that through the vacuum casting of metal or other substances, the gas content will be sharply reduced, which can greatly improve the practicality of special substances, but also to achieve a series of high requirements, high standards of castings.
Mechanical properties and surface quality greatly improved: vacuum casting to reduce the gas content of the casting itself, then also reduces the porosity within the casting at the same time, which will improve the mechanical properties of the casting and the surface quality, which can be better subsequent processing of its coating properties.
Meet high quality casting production: Due to the special nature of the process, after the vacuum treatment, the metal will reduce the gas and porosity, so the process also meets the high quality requirements of the casting production.
Of course, the process also has certain disadvantages, due to the high requirements of the process, so the relative cost is expensive.
The process is generally used mostly for smelting steam, high pressure, easy to play and loss of alloys or high-quality castings, because such castings should not contain volatiles.
2. What is a casting?
Casting refers to a process in which liquid metal is injected into a prepared and specific mold through smelting. Generally, it is processed through pouring, injection molding, suction method, and after cooling it down, followed by a certain polishing process to obtain the specified shape, size, and functional object.
3. What is a vacuum?
Vacuum is a physical phenomenon, in the engineering manufacturing industry, as long as the environment below a certain standard atmospheric pressure can be defined as "vacuum". Of course, according to different air pressure, it can be divided into low vacuum, high vacuum, ultra-high vacuum and so on.
Generally speaking, when the vacuum in a certain space below an atmospheric pressure gas state, this physical phenomenon in the "void" can not pass the sound, because the sound needs medium, but the transmission of electromagnetic waves can not be affected by the vacuum phenomenon.
So what machines are commonly used in vacuum casting?
The casting vacuum machine was launched on October 10, 2003, opened a new era in the engineering casting industry. The casting vacuum machine, also known as the vacuum casting machine, can combine vacuum technology with sand mold casting relatively well. plastic film is used to seal the cavity surface and back surface of the sand mold and the vacuum pump is used to extract air and generate negative pressure, achieving a difference between the inside and outside of the sand mold, so that the mold sand can be firmly formed.
In China, casting technology has become very mature and stable. Many items we use in our life are actually undergone vacuum treatment and casting, common examples include plastic bowls that can enter microwave ovens, which require high temperature resistance and corrosion resistance; There are also some materials such as special diamond and titanium alloy steel that we can see intuitively around us, such as titanium alloy knives, pens, watches, rings, etc.
Through these substances, it is not difficult to find that items made by vacuum casting have a crucial feature, which is that even in saltwater environments, they have good corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance, and other characteristics.
What is the process flow of vacuum casting technology?
What are the steps of casting technology?
The main process flow of vacuum casting technology is:
Modeling preparation: Prepare the shape of the castings to be cast according to specific requirements, select suitable molds, repeatedly check the size and internal structure of the molds, and perform preparatory work to ensure compliance with requirements.
Installation of welding card board: fix the welding card board to its corresponding mold with bolts for easy subsequent vacuuming operations. Attention should be paid here that the surface of the casting should be smooth.
Mold preheating treatment: Place the welding plate into a high-temperature furnace for heating treatment, heat the welding card plate and mold to a certain degree of stability, in order to improve the surface quality of the mold and extend its service life.
Vacuuming: Vacuuming is the most crucial step in the entire process and the core step of vacuum technology. This technology can effectively prevent the pollution of castings by air oxygen and other doping substances, while also making their surfaces smooth and beautiful, as it can prevent defects such as pores and sand holes on the surface of castings.
The next steps are: pouring liquid metal, cooling fixed pipes, and removing castings.
